Once again Loveland Ski Area wins the race as Colorado’s first resort to open for the season. One run opened today (Sunday, October 24) with a base of both natural and man-made snow measuring 18 inches. Runner-up, Arapahoe Basin, will open tomorrow (Monday, October 25).

Sunday River in Maine opened on Friday but wasn’t planning to be open on weekdays yet. Oregon’s Timberline Lodge has been open Fridays through Sundays since Oct. 1,” according to CBS4Denver.com.

Let’s venture west for a bit as Coloradans rejoice… Loveland Ski Area has opened for the season. The mountain opened one lift to a single run with an 18” base.  The 1,000 ft run was filled top to bottom with both natural and manmade snow. The October 7th opener is the earliest Loveland has opened it’s slopes in the past 40 years.  Snowmaking began on Sept. 21.  A-Basin will be open on Friday, setting it’s own record for earliest opening day.  Check the Denver Post for the most recent info on CO openings.
